Ok, Chilluns- show of hands. Who remembers, “You’ve Got Mail?”. That was the romantic comedy with Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan (no, not “Sleepless in Seattle”, the other romantic comedy). You know- the one featuring the plight of a small but beloved local children’s book store? Ok, the movie might have been more about the sparks that fly between the two lovable stars, but stick with me, here.
This blog post is about just such a store. Once Upon A Time has been an absolute Los Angeles treasure since 1966. I say Los Angeles and not just Glendale because this store is famous to book lovers and kids at heart all over the southland. This is the kind of store where the staff takes the time to talk to you about what interests you. They will engage your child and instill in them the love of reading and adventure.
At Once Upon a Time you are not a customer or a walking dollar. You are a fellow reader that should be embraced and celebrated. You are one of the family.
Along that theme, there are numerous clubs, events and games that take place throughout the week and month. Must are geared for kids, but, once a month, there a book club for the more *ahem* advanced readers.
Once Upon a Time is more of a neighborhood gathering than a store. And that’s a good thing.
