Day 49- Let’s Go To Argentina

July 31, 2010 by Kendyl Leave a Comment

On Day 49 in 365 Things To Do in Glendale, Ca join me in a little side trip to Argentina… by way of Rincon Argentino, a deli, bakery and grocery store for all things Argentinian (including soccer paraphernalia)

Husband and I found this little hole in the wall on Colorado Blvd. because we needed smoked paprika. What we found was a delight. This is a tiny space jam packed with interesting goodness. The front counter is the bakery. A rotating case displays empanadas of all sorts. I am no expert, but I find these little bundles of savory yumminess delightful. There is also an assortment of really delicious looking yeasty pastries.

Along the back is the deli counter and I saw cured meats, cheeses, olives and large slices of Quince Paste. Ever had that hideously expensive gourmet delight from Whole Foods or Gelson’s? It makes artisan cheeses positively sing in your mouth, and, here, it is sold for a song. Add a bold and luscious red wine and your mouth is in culinary heaven. And speaking of wine…

Argentinian Reds are supposed to be fabulous. Or, so says my cork dork friend, Greg. And he knows from good wine. There is a nice selection offered and I plan to pull Greg over there at some point to tell me what to buy. Past the wines, along the third wall are shelves lines with all sort of interesting and delicious looking packages foods from, presumably, Argentina.

I think food has to be one of the best ways to visit a culture. Why not visit Argentina?
