On to some GREEN news, I’ve noticed that the City of Glendale is really starting to get on the green band wagon!   Did you read the current issue of City News?  It is chock full of news of ways the city is going green, especially the Public Works Division.  Some events to know about:

Did you know that Glendale Water and Power gives large incentives to homeowners who install Solar Energy in their homes?

This is a great article in the Pasadena Star News about a home in Pasadena, but it contains a great quote about the Glendale incentives.

La Brie noted that Pasadena Water & Power, along with Glendale and Burbank’s utility providers, have just set themselves up to provide rebates for customers who chose to install solar electric panels. The smaller power companies will be able to give even larger rebates than Edison, from 30 to 40 percent of the installation cost to residential customers, he said.

Out of curiosity, I looked up the Glendale Water and Power website and found the “Smart Home Solar Program”. The utility company will rebate up to 50% of the cost of the solar panels, making the system pay for itself in as little as 6 years.

Regular readers know that I am pursuing my Eco Broker certification - I want to be an expert at marketing green homes. In today’s market, I am sad to say, solar electricity does not add value to the resale price of a home. But I am sure that will change. “Being Green” is a fast moving trend in today’s market.

KermitKermit is green. He is awesome. It’s awesome to be green.

These days, it is awesome to be green when it comes to our homes. Recycle. Compost. Use solar energy. Keep the thermostat at 68 in the winter (brr).

That’s where today’s post comes in. Over the weekend I saw Ed Begley Jr. filming a commercial for his new “green” cleaning products. If Ed Begley Jr. were any greener, he would be Kermit.

Virgi's

(By the way, I encourage you to take a look at Virgil’s Hardware. They have everything you need, friendly staff and quite a few things specifically for our older homes. Plus, they had Ed Begley Jr. and environmentally friendly products. Sweet!)

Green homes are the new rage in Real Estate. We more conscious than ever of energy efficient features in our home - from energy star rated appliances to solar heating to dual paned windows. We know these features are good for us and good for the environment - but did you know they are good for your resale value also?

I am in the process of getting my EcoBroker certification to learn how to market homes with “green” features more effectively and for more money. As I proceed through this course of study I will write articles here that will share the best and most useful tips for homeowners in Glendale.

Is your home especially green? I would love to hear about it! I want to have a great database of the greenest homes in Glendale. Then maybe I can market them to Ed and his friends…
