Today I noticed a HUGE number of signs just like this one. Seriously, it looked like there were dozens if not a few hundred signs on front lawns throughout Northwest Glendale, mostly in Cumberland Heights.
This is in addition to the huge banner on John McMahon house on the 500 block of Cumberland.
This is a complicated issue dealing with federal regulations that trump city municipalities, aesthetic rights of homeowners and even disputed heath risk allegations.
I think most in the neighborhood would like better cell reception – the area close to Brand Park has long been a bit of a dead zone.
Honestly, though, can’t the cell companies do better than plopping a modern technical monstrosity in a hugely visable and obvious place? If the cell towers are camoflauged to look like pine trees for the aesthetics of motorists whizzing by at 65MPH (who are we kidding? It’s more like 85MPH) , why in the world would they think we’ll be ok with any sort of tower in a pedestrian oriented historic residential neighborhood? Did they think we would just take it lying down? Sheesh.
Like I said last week, this idea is just so wrong-headed.
On a positive note, however, I am so proud of my fellow citizens banning together for a common cause. It is so gratifying to know that my neighborhood is not an apathetic neighborhood. In my neighborhood we take on the issues, educate our fellow citizens, excercise our civil rights and we participate, peacefully, in getting the government to take our issues under account.
This is what American Freedom is all about.

For those who read my blog and are in other parts of Glendael, take heed. There are 3 more applications in the works and more are sure to come. We live in a world were cell phones are fast becoming the main phone line and tensions between cell companies and property owner will happen more and more.
