Southern California Fires

San Fernando Valley- October 15th, 2008

As you may know several parts of Southern California have been affected by fires. You never know when we, in Glendale, could be affected.  Every 60 seconds, a house burns. It doesn’t always happen to “someone else”. Are you prepared in the event your home burns to the ground?

FIRE PREVENTION

  • Keep matches, lighters and all flammables out of reach of children.
  • Make sure every room has enough electrical outlets to avoid the need for multiple attachment plugs. Never use more than one high-wattage appliance on a circuit at a time.
  • Install smoke detectors at the top of stairways, in bedroom areas and in the basement.
  • Make sure there is ample air circulation around your TV sets, stereos and radios-especially if they’re grouped around one another.
  • Don’t smoke in bed or when lying down. I know it sounds funny but negligent smoking is the cause of more than half of home fires.

INSURANCE INFORMATION
Things you should have in a safe place outside your home:

  • Policy number
  • Insurance Company
  • Agent information
  • Expiration date
  • Claims hot line
  • A household inventory list: (Living room inventory, Master bedroom inventory, etc…)
  • Video of your household inventory
  • Appraisals of jewelry, fine art, etc…

This great summary comes from:
