The turkey is gone - even the leftovers, the Christmas lights are starting to appear and the presents are starting to show up under the tree. The holiday season is in full swing and you might be thinking, “no one buys a home at this time of year!”
Wrong-o, Bucky. While it is true that we don’t sell droves of homes in December, homes do sell. Like soap and toilet paper, the need for a home never goes away. And, since people’s lives are always changing, some people gotta buy a home in December!
Who buys a home now? Here is a run down of typical holiday buyers. Relocatees are the number one source. Companies often want to position new hires during the holidays so that when the new year starts, the new hire has their feet under them and able to concentrate on the new job. Weddings, births, death and divorce also do not care about holidays. They happen when they happen. Taxes (close buy a home before then end of the fiscal year) and financial hardship are the last 2 catagories.
What do these categories have in common? They are not discretionary moves. Something other than a wish or desire is making the move necessary and it is here is that the wise find opportunity. People in the real estate market right now are serious about moving and they don’t have time for games. If you have a home to sell, the buyers need to buy and they don’t have a lot of choices. Make sure your home is the best value out there and chances are good that you will sell. If you need to buy a home, now is the time to make an aggressive offer!
In the spirit of the hyper-local blog that this is, in the coming days I plan to give you details about the homes that are selling in OUR little corner of the world. Why are the buyer buying? Why are the sellers selling? I can’t name names but I can give you a sense of what is happening here - in Northwest Glendale. Stay tuned.
