Have you noticed that cool looking place being done over by St. Marks? It’s called Recess Eatery, 1102 N. Brand Blvd., Glendale, Ca. I love the logo, it looks so hip and urbane. The name is a reminder of your carefree days in school- where recess was a time for food, fun and friendship.
On a whim, I stopped by and was lucky to catch the owner, Sevan, and his dad, Victor. They filled me in on the details and I can not wait for this place to open up!
Sevan Azarian tells me he is a Glendale native who has 15 years experience opening restaurants across the globe. He trained at the famed San Franciso California Culinary Academy and has worked for the Patina Group.
I asked Sevan why he would open a restaurant in today’s challenging economy. He responded that Glendale has long needed an place with a hip, urban vibe and, if you start small and offer exceptional quality, the opportunity is there for success.
Recess Eatery will be open for breakfast, lunch and dinner seven days a week. There will be a cappuccino/espresso bar, a fresh squeezed juice bar and a little retail for “foodie”s like me. Access is easy-peasy with lots of FREE parking in the lot and on the street.
Evenings will be special because Recess Eatery has a small dining room where customers can host private, intimate parties for 10-30 people with a completely catered meal and valet parking.
The Grand Opening is set for July 23, 2009. Check the website for details and to see their playful menu, www.recesseatery.com

Unfortunately, Mr. Azarian is willing to take advantage of young and inexperienced employees by having some of them work in his restaurant and not pay them. I don’t care how hip his restaurant is, he is NOT.
