Regular readers will tell you that the number of sold homes has dropped dramatically over the last 12 months.  Now, you might assume this is because it is so hard to get a mortgage- but that is only a small part of the problem.  A larger problem is the lack of inventory- would be home sellers either can’t, or won’t, market their homes at today’s prices.  On top of this, banks have held back on putting their foreclosed and distressed properties on the market.

Darlin’s today is Wednesday and that means I was touring all the homes for sale in Glendale.  Surveying all the best listings of the week to report back to YOU.

The statue of Miss American Green Cross was created in 1928 as a tribute to an early 20th Century tree society and a symbol of the deforestation that was taking place across the country at that time.

After a car crashed into the statue, it was dumped behind Brand’s Castle, and laid abandoned for 30 years. Hikers discovered it in an overgrown canyon in the mid-50′s reporting that the arm of Miss American Green Cross was missing. It was assumed that vandals had carried it off. In 1981 the monument was taken to the city maintenance yard where she remained for 10 more years ~ until Glendale Parks, Recreation and Community Services, along with the organization Glendale Beautiful, raised money to have her restored.

The statue was created to commemorate preservation of our forests and to remind everyone that trees are a renewable resource – if you manage them properly. Even in 1928 there were forward thinking environmentalists…

A long time resident and loyal Kendyl’s Open House blog reader, Pat Savatgy (Hi, Pat!) commented that she remembers when this statue was actually about 1/2 mile up the fire road toward the Brand Family Cemetery.  She said that in it’s former location vandals would often deface the statue with paint.

You know, any city in America will have your basic statue of some historic figure (some old, white dude, right?).  But, here, in Glendale, we have some truly interesting stuff.

I am so excited about this Glendale city view home I could just about burst.  Located in Northwest Glendale this is a home that is the very definition of immaculate.  It has 3 bedroom plus a room that is the most lavish closet I think I’ve every seen.  It is the size of a small bedroom and features wall of glassed in closets and cabinets.  Outstanding.

Obviously the answer is almost entirely subjective, but the real question is some form of, “who lives here?”

It is a question I can’t answer!  Seriously. It is against the law.  I know that seems ridiculous, seeing as how I am the neighborhood expert and all, but I am simply not allowed.  I answer this question by pointing my clients to resources such as Crime Reports or Megan’s Law (for sex offenders) and Great Schools for school information.
